Yarn Painting
Yarn painting is a great project if you have a gallon of glue and some old cardbord and yarn hanging around. This lesson can be used in social studies to teach about the Hichola Indians. They used the techniques to create lasting works of art.
Technology and the art of Social Realism
After completion of the lesson, students will be able to: Describe the similarities and differences between two works of art of the Social Realist style but produced by two different artists, such as Jacob Lawrence and Charles White.
Self portrait poetry
This is a good way for students to create a picture of themselves, without getting too caught up in the likeness of the final drawing. Students create poems that reinforce the drawn image and help identify their personality. It can be used as a get to know you, beginning of the year activity, or as an introduction to poetry in an English class.
