Welcome to the Washington High Art Space
Welcome to the wonderful world of art. Washington High school is a located in Atlanta, GA. We teach drawing, painting and ceramics to 9th through 12th grade students. This site is dedicated to showcasing the hard work of young developing talent. I would like to highlight the importance of the arts in todays education. This site is also meant to serve as a resource for other teachers. Here you will find great tips for creating art, links to great art sites, lesson plans and a place for students to talk about art.
An arts based curriculum: visual arts, theater, poetry, dance, and music allows for differentiated instruction, for a variety of learning styles and addresses all eight intelligences. An arts base curriculum allows the teacher freedom in his or her instruction methods, to modify the presentation of the material that is being taught in such a way as to address multiple learning styles and intelligences. Material is learned in an authentic way, giving it a greater connection to the learner, thus making it easier to apply later. Through the arts, core teachers can examine and explore various key ideas, while students have the oppertunity to create and directly engaged in the process of the art making, not just the final end result.
